We use it across 11 formulas because it threads through everything MOTE stands for: working with the skin's own biology rather than around it. In the cleansers it counters the disruption of cleansing itself. In the Reedle Shot it rides the micro-channels opened by the hydrolysed sponge.

Microalgae-derived. Unlike beta-carotene which can turn pro-oxidant at high concentrations, astaxanthin stays antioxidant throughout. Its singlet oxygen quenching capacity substantially exceeds Vitamin C.

Radiance Restore is built for high-UV environments. Astaxanthin doesn't brighten directly it prevents oxidative stress that triggers new pigmentation, protecting the results TXA and Niacinamide are creating.

Inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme melanocytes need to produce melanin. More stable in formula than kojic acid. No bleaching ceiling unlike hydroquinone.

In Radiance Restore, TXA anchors a triple-pathway system with Niacinamide and Hexylresorcinol. Each hits melanin production at a different point formulated specifically for deeper Indian skin tones.

The only oil-soluble cosmetic exfoliant - it dissolves into sebum and works from inside the pore outward. Water-soluble AHAs cannot make that journey.

Why it's in our formula

In Acne Reset we encapsulate it in Beta-Cyclodextrin which releases it gradually over hours. This extends efficacy and reduces the irritation that makes BHA hard to tolerate daily.

Sake brewery workers were observed to have remarkably smooth, even-toned hands despite rough work. Traced to the galactomyces ferment they handled daily. Rich in vitamins, amino acids and organic acids that refine texture and improve luminosity.

In the Reedle Shot, GFF is delivered through micro-channels - access it wouldn't have through surface application. In Silk Whip it adds a skin-refining layer to offset the heaviness of a rich SPF base.

Human sebum is roughly 15% squalene. Squalane is the stable, saturated form that won't oxidise on skin a molecule the skin already recognises and accepts without reaction.

Why it's in our formula

Olive-derived in all MOTE formulas. In the Barrier Serum it contributes to the lipid layer preventing water loss. In the Champi Hair Vial it coats the shaft with something structurally similar to the scalp's own protective film.

Zinc Oxide Mineral UV Filter

Physically scatters and reflects UV radiation. Inherently photostable. Covers both UVB and UVA simultaneously the only UV filter providing true broad-spectrum protection on its own.

Why it's in our formula

Mineral Glaze+ uses micronised zinc oxide to minimise white cast on Indian skin tones. Paired with a fermented botanical oil complex to offset zinc's mattifying effect.

Covers UVB and both UVA1 and UVA2. Inherently photostable doesn't degrade in sunlight and doesn't need a stabiliser partner. Not yet approved in the US; widely used in India and the EU.

Why it's in our formula

Silk Whip is a body SPF in a soufflé texture. Bemotrizinol is oil-soluble compatible with that rich base in a way water-dispersible filters aren't. Protection without compromising the texture.
